To demonstrate your mastery of Computer Science by designing, coding, and documenting a significant software application of your own creation.
Culminating Performance Task (30%)
This is it! The final challenge. You have the next few weeks to build a Python application that showcases everything you have learned. You have creative freedom to choose what you build, as long as it meets the technical requirements below.
- Project Window: Jan 5 - Jan 21
- Daily Requirement: Update your Project Journal at the end of every work session.
- FINAL DUE DATE: Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Technical Requirements
Regardless of your idea (game, quiz, organizer, tool), your code must include:
- Variables & Types: Use strings, integers, floats, and booleans correctly.
- Input / Output: Clear prompts for the user and formatted output (f-strings).
- Control Structures: Complex decision making using
if/elif/elseand repetition usingwhileloops (e.g., a main game loop). - Data Structures: You must use at least one List to store data (e.g., an inventory, a list of questions, high scores).
- Functions: Your code must be modular. You need custom functions with parameters and return values.
- Documentation: Professional docstrings for all functions and comments throughout the code.
Project Ideas
Idea 1: Text Adventure
A "Choose Your Own Adventure" game. Use a loop for the game engine, functions for different "rooms," and a list to track the player's inventory.
Idea 2: Trivia Master
A quiz game. Use parallel lists (one for questions, one for answers) and a loop to iterate through them. Keep track of the score.
Idea 3: Personal Organizer
A "CRUD" app (Create, Read, Update, Delete). Manage a To-Do list or a contact book. Use a menu loop and list methods.
Evaluation
Your project will be graded on:
- Functionality: Does it work without crashing? Does it meet all requirements?
- Complexity: Did you challenge yourself?
- Code Quality: Is it organized, efficient, and readable?
- Process (The Journal): Did you document your work and AI usage daily?
Don't start coding yet! Open your Project Journal and write down your idea. What will you build? What is the "MVP" (Minimum Viable Product)? Start planning today.
